Festivals and Events in April in India

Baisakhi – Punjab (14 April, 2012)
Baisakhi celebrates the founding of Khalsa – Sikhism. It is also celebrated as harvest festival. Good food, folk music, street processions, bhangra dancing and various cultural activities mark the Baisakhi celebrations in Punjab. Golden Temple in Amritsar wears a festive look during Baisakhi celebrations.
Tulip Festival – Srinagar (1st week of April)
If you have been thinking of planning a trip to Kashmir, spring is one of the best seasons. It is not too cold, weather remains pleasant and this paradise on earth is just perfect for your visit. April in Srinagar is also the time for Tulip Festival. The city has the largest tulip garden in Asia. During the Tulip Festival, one can see more than two million tulips in bloom. Kashmiri folk dance and song are other highlights of the Tulip Festival. Spring is also the best time to spend some time in the famous Mughal gardens of Srinagar.
Arattupuzha Pooram – Arattupuzha Temple, Thrissur (4 April, 2012)
Arattupuzha Pooram is yet another temple festival celebrated in Kerala and like most other major temple festivals, elephants are an integral part of the festival. One can marvel at the sight of beautifully decorated large elephant pageant featuring around 60 elephants. It is believed that during the festival, 101 Gods and Goddesses from the neighboring villages visited Sree Ayyappan, the presiding deity of the Arattupuzha Temple.
